What does DudaOne import when creating a site?

This article refers to a previous version of the Duda Responsive Website Builder. Click here for help content on the current Duda editor.

When first creating a DudaOne site you are given the option to import content from other sources on the web, mainly the desktop site or the business Facebook page. This guide will give you reference for what Duda tries to import during the initial creation of the website.

Original Site

When you give Duda an existing website URL to import content from is when Duda does the best job of creating websites. During the import process, here are a list of items we will try and identify on your original site and import into your new DudaOne site:

  • Header Image or Text
  • Pages from the navigation of the original site
  • Page specific content
  • Phone numbers
  • Addresses
  • Image sliders
  • Photo galleries
  • YouTube videos

When we import pages from the original site we also keep the page titles, meta keywords and meta content tags that are on the site already. When creating a new DudaOne site and replacing it with an existing site, we recognize the importance of keeping SEO terms consistent as you transfer to the new site.

When identifying all the items listed above, Duda will also try and keep as much of the structure of the original website. For example, we will try to keep existing layouts & column widths if we can identify them. We try to keep the navigation the same in the main site.

Facebook and Social Media

When creating a DudaOne site we will attempt to utilize directories & social media sources as a resource for information. If you put your business Facebook page or website, we still attempt to find resources on the web about your business. We will look at resources such as Yelp, Google Places, Twitter, Locu, Single Platform, and more to find out information about your business. We use this information to populate the following items into your site automatically:

  • Phone number
  • Addresses
  • Facebook albums
  • Restaurant Menus
  • Twitter feeds
  • Social Icons

Depending on what we find, we will automatically create pages for your site as well. If we find pictures in Facebook, Duda might create a gallery page. If we find a restaurant menu, Duda will create a menu page on your site.

We import content to make it as easy as possible to create a website as possible. We realize that creating websites is hard enough -- we try and cut out as many steps as we can.

Troubleshooting & FAQ's

There was an error when converting my site

Our import tool uses a bot to scan through the site to see what content can be imported. Sometimes, as a security mechanism for desktop sites, our bot gets blocked from being able to access the site. To resolve this, you may have to contact your server host to white-list our user agent, as shown below;

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv: Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8

The conversion process is all messy

The conversion process isn't perfect, and is meant as a solution only if it pulls in content nicely. If it doesn't pull in content in the desired way, please create the site from scratch instead - You can use the pull & import tool for this.
